Elgar at the piano

Now on Naxos

2000th release on Naxos

On 1 March 2000 Naxos will release their 2000th CD - the first budget-price recording of the Elgar-Payne Symphony No 3 (Elgar's sketches elaborated by Anthony Payne) performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Paul Daniel. Paul is highly respected and known for his spectacular performances of British repertoire. His highly acclaimed Walton series on Naxos received many accolades, the Spitfire Prelude and Fugue etc. (8.553344) being one of the discs to receive the 1999 Gramophone Editor's Choice His performances of Elgar have also been immensely well-received. To quote Gramophone magazine :

A probing intelligence informs every bar of Paul Daniel's Elgar.. .I like the generous warmth.. . beautifully etched details are legion and often genuinely excite the imagination. . . riveting. "

To complement playing and interpretation of the highest standards, this landmark recording has been engineered for Naxos by none other than Tony Faulkner, working for the first time on the label. No collector will want to miss Paul Daniel's outstanding insights into this absorbing, moving work.
