THE ELGAR SOCIETY

ELGAR IN PERFORMANCE
Financial assistance

The Elgar Society would like to encourage - by giving financial assistance - performances of Elgar's works that are rarely performed and to encourage performances of any of his works in areas where his music is rarely heard. In particular, the Society would be delighted to encourage with such assistance performances which otherwise would not take place.

The Elgar Society is fully aware that many of Elgar's works require large orchestral resources and in the case of choral works and concertos, professional soloists.

One particular area of interest is choral singing in the British Isles and we are keen to support performances of the following works for which financial assistance of up to £1000 may be available:

The Apostles
The Kingdom
Scenes from the Saga of King Olaf
Caractacus
The Spirit of England

Financial assistance may also be available for the following works:

The Black Knight
The Banner of St. George
The Light of Life (Lux Chisti)
The Music Makers
Coronation Ode
The music of the First World War

This list is not exhausitive, and other works may be considered. In particular the Society is keen to help performance of Elgar's music abroad.

Consideration will be given only to works performed in accordance with the requirements as specified by Elgar. Works to be given in a reduced or truncated version will not be considered for financial assistance.

Applications for financial assistance must be submitted on the appropriate Elgar in Performance Application Form as early as possible before the projected performance takes place. Application forms may be downloaded from this site, or are available by writing to:

If financial assistance is granted, The Elgar Society is to be given the appropriate acknowledgement on all advertisement materials for the concert and in the concert programme. This is to be done using a form of words agreed between the Elgar Society and the concert promoter(s). An advertisement containing the appropriate "The Elgar Society (Elgar in Performance Working Group) Registered Charity No: 298062" information about The Elgar Society will be inserted at no charge in the concert programme. Complementary tickets for the concert would be appreciated.

The Elgar Society is also willing to provide at no charge support for the concert. This could involve publicity, particularly on the Society's web site and in the Society News, advice on the choice of soloists, help with hiring music scores, advice on programme notes and other background material.

The decision of The Elgar in Performance Working Group (a working group of The Elgar Society) in all matters concerning financial assistance is final.
