The Great Western Branch of the Elgar Society was formed in 2003 by amalgamating
two existing branches - the South West branch, and the South Wales Branch.
The inaugural meeting of the South West branch of the Society was held at the Bristol Music
Club, Clifton on 17 February 1979, and the South Wales branch was formed in 1985.
The new branch attracts members from a wide geographical area, and it is planned to hold
meetings in Bristol and Cardiff. In addition to its formal programme of meetings, the
branch continues to work closely and arrange occasional joint events with local choral
societies. The branch also normally holds social events in the Summer and at Christmas. A
very warm welcome is offered to members of other branches of the Society and to non-Society
members who wish to join the Great Western branch at any of its meetings or other events.
Programme for 2008
Meeting time and venue : Branch meetings are normally held on the fourth Saturday
of each month except July and August. Except where otherwise indicated, meetings open at
2.15 p.m. and finish at 4.30 p.m.
