THE ELGAR SOCIETY
National and Branch Activities

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING and BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

The main event in the National Society's calendar is the AGM weekend. This is always held as near as possible to Elgar's birthday (2nd June), usually in Hereford, Malvern or Worcester. Although the weekend is based around the AGM itself, held on the Saturday afternoon, the weekend is more of a social occasion, an opportunity for members to meet and to enjoy music and other events together over the weekend.

SPECIAL EVENTS

..... such as study days and excursions to places associated with Elgar and his music are organised from time to time, both nationally and by branches. The 1998 première of the Elgar/Payne Third Symphony was attended by a party of over 300 Society members, family and friends, making it what we believe to be the largest ever Society gathering.

Perhaps the most significant Society event of 2001 took place in Worcester from 31 August - 2 September, when the Elgar Society celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
